SDG Day Advanced Workshop at MEDCO
With sustainability at the core of MEDCO’s values, two advanced SDG training sessions were organized for our MEDCOers in collaboration with the UN Global Compact Network Lebanon.
The session aimed to reinforce and deepen engagement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role we all play in contributing to fulfill our goals. They also spotlighted the specific SDGs we prioritize in our work and the impact behind our ongoing initiatives.
A big thank you to UN Global Compact representatives Mrs. Deenah Fakhoury, Executive Director of the local network, and Mrs. Myrna Merhej, Participant Engagement Manager, for passionately leading the sessions and sharing valuable insights and inspiration with our team.
They introduced the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, a framework adopted by companies as part of their sustainability strategies, covering four key areas: human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The sessions also revisited the Sustainable Development Goals, a global blueprint for addressing pressing challenges and achieving a more sustainable future, and explained the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda: a collective plan adopted by all UN member states to promote sustainable development for people and the planet by 2030.
During the sessions, we highlighted the key SDGs MEDCO focuses on, adopting SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
To actively engage participants, MEDCOers were divided into groups based on each SDG and challenged with case studies to analyze and discuss. Each group then tackled a final question, proposing practical solutions to help MEDCO advance these goals and identifying actionable next steps. The three most impactful ideas will be developed and implemented at MEDCO in the near future.
These sessions successfully fostered a deeper understanding and engagement among MEDCOers and reinforced the company’s commitment to embedding these global goals into everyday practices. By involving employees directly in problem-solving and solution-building, MEDCO is empowering its team to contribute meaningfully to its sustainability journey. This collaborative effort not only aligns with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda but also positions MEDCO as a responsible leader dedicated to creating lasting, positive impact for both the environment and society.
